Prof. Walter Hannam appointed Chaplain of St. Mary's Church

Walter-Hannam-2.jpgThe Rev. Dr. Walter Hannam has been appointed Chaplain to historic St. Mary’s Church, Prince Albert.

Fr. Hannam, recently ordained as a priest of our Diocese, is Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology and Anglican Studies at the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad in Saskatoon. His wife Sarah is the daughter of Jaimie & Rae Benson of Prince Albert.

The appointment is appropriate since this church, which was built in 1871, was the heart of the original University of Saskatchewan--Emmanuel College--which moved from Prince Albert to Saskatoon in 1909.

St. Mary’s churchyard is also the resting place of Prince Albert’s first resident, James Isbister, many aboriginal people and settlers, various of the Bishops, early clergy and missionaries of the Diocese, and some of those who lost their lives during the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.

Services are held at St. Mary’s Church once a month during June, July and August. More information about these services will be announced presently.

Professor Hannam succeeds as Chaplain the Ven. Michael Averyt.
