St. Christopher's seeks new Priest for half time position
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 02:48PM Position Available
Half Time Priest
Saint Christopher’s, Christopher Lake
The Parish of St. Christopher is located in the resort village of Christopher Lake, in a boreal forest zone of mid-central Saskatchewan. It is located one-half hour north of Prince Albert and two hours north of Saskatoon.
The Parish seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, priest, who values lay ministry, seeks out young families and children and is sensitive to the needs of the elderly.
While grounded in Anglican worship, the great gift of St. Christopher is that we are a community Church made up of Christians from United Church, Lutheran, Mennonite, and Pentecostal backgrounds worshipping together and sharing in caring for one another and serving the community.
The Parish is healthy and active and we have enjoyed good clerical and lay leadership for some time. Interest in Lay Leadership has increased with 4 new Lay Readers licensed this year bringing them to a total of 7.
There is one service each Sunday with 2 Sundays a month being Holy Communion: 1 service BAS and 1 BCP. The other two Sundays are Morning Prayer: 1 being BAS and 1 BCP. On the 5th Sundays there is a healing service.
We are a financially sound Church and able to meet our expenses and save for shortfalls as our membership and attendance fluctuate with the seasons. Average attendance is 55 persons and there are 59 families on our roster with an approximate total of 112 people.
The village is located in close proximity to numerous lakes: Christopher Lake, Emma Lake, Anglin Lake, Mcphee Lake, with Prince Albert National Park to the north.
There is one other Church in the community, St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, and we share Good Friday and World Day of Prayer services with them. The nearby Lutheran Church Camp has services in the two summer months.
Our Church building is in excellent condition, half of it being a newer addition. It is well maintained with a Mom and Tots room and a multipurpose lower hall and kitchen which serve both the Church and Community. There is no Rectory but homes are available to purchase in the village and surrounding Rural Municipalities of Lakeland and Paddockwood. The population of Christopher Lake is approximately 225 people and the R.M. of Lakeland has 1043 permanent residents swelling to 2050 in the summer months.
In the village there is a Public K to 8 School (K to 8 with 127 students), a Post Office, Hairdresser, Massage Therapist, Restaurants, Village Office, R.M. Office, Library, Hotel, Credit Union, Grocery Store, Insurance Office and a Gas Station under construction.
We look forward to working with our new priest in growing as disciples, in building up our congregation and in reaching out to our community with the love of God.
Parish Profiles are available from the Synod Office. Applications for this position will be received until October15th, 2010. Clergy from outside the Diocese of Saskatchewan should consult their own bishop before applying. Letters of application along with resumes and three references should be sent to:
