Lighting of Advent Wreath - Advent II

The following may be used for the lighting of the Advent Wreath. This form allows you to draw out some of the memorable verses of the Scripture for the day. The verses are short and easy enough to be read by children. The Advent Collect is to be used every Sunday in addition to the Collect for the Day, and fits well here.

V.  Whatsoever things were written aforetime
R.  Were written for our learning
V.  That we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures
R.  Might have hope.

The lighting of the 2nd candle.

V.  Heaven and earth shall pass away:
R.  But my words shall not pass away.

Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy son, Jesus Christ, came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty, to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life Immortall through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, now and ever. Amen.

OR

V.  Whatever was written in former days
R.  Was written for our instruction
V.  That by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the Scriptures
R.  We might have hope.

The lighting of the 2nd candle.

V.  Heaven and earth will pass away:
R.  But my words will not pass away.

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility so that on the last day, when he will come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
