The Sunday School kids at St. Alban’s Cathedral have bought a goat, two ducks, a piglet, a donkey and two rabbits! This menagerie is not to start a farm, but to help needy families in the third world. The kids started their “Goat Project” in March, collecting spare change from their families throughout Lent; they also raised money through a bake sale. At Easter the money was collected, and although the goal was just one goat ($150), they were delighted to surpass this goal, raising over $600. The charitable organization, World Vision, which operates in the third world to help alleviate poverty, administers a program to provide animals for struggling families. These animals can provide health, nourishment and a source of steady income for the recipients . “It was a Lenten project that seemed tangible and that the kids could get excited about,” said Anna Burton, coordinator of the Sunday School. “They’ve done a super job. I’m very proud of them.”
